    PHP/MySQL/Apache on Windows

    Hello

Just after a bit of help, I run a dedicated server for my clan and we need mySQL and PHP installed (And a web server, opted for Apache) for a web-based server administration tool. Now then, I dont have much experience with mySQL, PHP or Apache so I was wondering if there were any packages out there which installed and configured them for me? Also I will need to create four databses on the mySQL server so if it comes with a handy tool for that also it would be a plus

    Cheers,

    Craig

I believe WAMP installs all three for you. To edit the databases, I use phpMyAdmin - I don't know whether WAMP installs it for you.

if your dedicated server has a windows server (as oposed to just XP pro say) license, then no way on gods green earth should you use apache, as its horifically slow compared to the new IIS6. If you dont have Server, ignore that comment.

For the sort of bandwidth he'll be talking about and number of concurrent users, Apache is in no way going to be challenged.

yeh but when its on the same box as a game server, a http server thats properly designed would be a big advantage.

Apache 2 made me tear down my poster of the apache foundation. They tried to copy MS, who realised what a big pile of excrement IIS was, and designed from scratch v6. Apache got it very wrong. You can actaully see spikes on a game server when 1 client hits apache, its that bad (not that PHP is any better).

You use Apache 1 with PHP for security, Apache 2 is still not secure enough.
