That Really good codec pack ?

Anyone know the name of the really good codec pack im thinking of ? The harddrive i used as my download disk failed last weekend, and i lost all my useful downlods such as this. I cant remember what the codec pack is called, i think it may have been linked with the DivX player, its not the DivX codec pack, and if it in anyway helps, it also causes a problem with Freelancer if you you have the codec pack installed when you install the game. I think its quite commonly used, just can't remember the name. Anyone know what im talking about ? Thanks for listening to me babble

nimo was great about 2 years ago, has sucked ever since. the kazaa lite pack is good but i'm not sure about the lisencing of some of its contents

or don't bother - all you need are 4 codecs, get the latest ones...

aviod ffdshow, its crap. u need xvid codec, divx, mpeg2 and another, then ur able to play everythin, go get media player classic, it has links to codecs u aint got (not if u got crappy replcacements though)
elcard mpeg2 is best imo for svcd/mpeg2 but messes up some wmv files but not all...
i use some random xvid i got ages ago
divx is the free non adware/spyware one
also got the quicktime alt, but its still just as rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishe as quicktime.. just a rip of the codec from the qt install..

www.moviecodec.com for mos codecs. For a pack that has just about every codec you would ever need try the ace code pack at http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/...1-2-7-10.shtml

    imo,all youll need is..

    divx
    xvid
    mp3
wmp9 codecs (some people use them for sound..)

if you're after a pack, dont venture near the Nimo codec pack, the Kazaalite codec pack seems pretty solid tho

    www.kazaalite.tk

ooh, and an installation of Power DVD 4/5 -to play any vob files you may have, or get the "freedvd.zip" file, to play tehm in WMP

You dont necessarily require DivX5 but I tend to install it first out of habit. These are the ones you need for various types of file:

ffdshow [lots of betas available but latest non beta still Sept-2002]
This is for playing most normal mpeg4 avi's such as DixX and Xvid.

For playing ogm/ogg files you need 3 things:
    Ogg DirectShow Filter
    Subtitle mixer
VSFilter 2.29 - see here for sourceforge page for latest version.
    For more info on ogg/ogm's

    AC3 Filter for AC3 Files

matroska splitter for MKV files - you may find you still need a better player than windows media player for MKV's.

Avi Splitter - will allow you to view partially downloaded AVI files.
Real Media Direct Show Viewer - Whilst you still need Real One player installed, this will allow you to view these files on your player of choice.

My current fav media player replacement is Core Media Player

If you dont think you have the right codec to play a file (or think you have too much rubbish installed - i.e. you have installed a pack like Nimo) then drag the mpeg4 file into this program and it will tell you what is needed to play it - Gspot.

If peeps dont want to install ffdshow, then you can install the free divx5 and one of the separate XVid win32 builds

personally i'd pick Media Player Classic as a top-notch WMP replacement, it's under a meg & will open quicktime & realmedia if you have the codecs (whihc most players won't)
