To save on space you could compress it, divx or xvid are good choices.

For beginners, Auto Gordian Knot is a great piece of software (http://www.autogk.me.uk/index.php?na...download&cid=1)

doom9.org is a great site for encoding tutorials, and handily there is one for Auto GK there too (http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/autogk.htm)

    Hope this help

I would be interested to see if the Hexus mods do lock it. Divx, DVD ripping etc may be a 'gray' area but you can't even open the pages of respectable magazine like PC Pro, Custom PC, PC format etc with seeing guides on how to do. Same going's for ripping CD's to MP3, which is still 'technically' illegal, but we all talk about and do that.

Anyway, my advice would be DivX/Xvid to safe on space. Another option would be DVD decrypter as said above to dump the whole DVD on your HDD. All good options.

But you could also use something like CloneDVD2 to create an image (compressed or orginal quality) which is saved on your HDD and then can be mounted with some virtual DVD drive software. This way you will be abale to view it as if it was an actuall disk in a drive, with all the chapters, menu's and extra etc. Good for multi episode DVDs and should the worst happen, such as your orginal DVD's getting scrached, you can burn the image to a blank DVD (using CloneDVD2 again) with ease.
BTW, to use CloneDVD2 you will need a program like AnyDVD or the free DVD43 to get around the protection.

    sorry guys.

i'd love to go into this, and i have PLENTY of experience to share, but it IS, unfortunately, black-and-white illegal.

under the terms of the Copyright, Designs & Patents Act 1988, you can't rip DVDs, you can't rip CDs, end of story.
