    Freeware text editors

Favourites please? What are the developers on the forums using? After syntax highlighting, clean and simple design, light etc. etc

vim (http://www.vim.org/) - just like Unix 'vi' with a few Windows enhancements.

    UltraEdit is also good.

Still textpad I'm afraid! Used the free demo version for ages while I was a student (years - it never expires and is fully functional) then I stumped up when I got job.
They told me I was gullible ... and I believed them.

I tend to use PHPEdit - got a free license for non-commercial use.
Use textpad for everything else - also paid to license it, as it's really very good. I just found editplus a bit too flakey. Plus - textpad is quite nifty for adding in your various compilers and runtime engines.

Found a topnotch editor called Crimson:

Maybe we should start a freeware sticky?
