    Angry SuSE RIP?

Looks like SuSE is to be no more. From Linux Today:
Why Is Novell Chopping Its SUSE Linux Workstation and Desktop Product Line?

Personally it's been my fave distro for years. It did/does everything I wanted ot to do flawlessley, with min effort & max efficiency. Tiz a great shame imo.

What are Novell upto? SUSE must make them a fair bit of money. SUSE has always been my favourite distro as it was so easy to set up with my wireless network (unlike other distros) and is easy to use while having powerful features as well.

SuSE was the first distro that made it onto a machine that i used as a desktop for more than a month. Mainly because i had oodles of CDs with everything on, because i was on a slow net conneciton. Also i didn't have to piss about getting it to work.

Why they just don't sell off the desktop/workstation end i won't understand.
Why people use linux on a desktop/workstation, i've yet to be given a compelling reason (in buisness).

Awww, I was going to post that!

Seriously, I'm not sure SUSE would disappear even if Novell decided to end it - it would certainly change, but the fact that openSUSE now exists means that the community could pick it up.

Perhaps because they don't want to be hostage to Microsoft if MS try to reintroduce annual licensing fees for the OS (as they did when XP was first released - it was only the resultant outcry as IT managers realised how much their annual costs would increase that made MS think again... or perhaps postpone it...)
