    Portable applications?

    I want to by a portable hard-drive to lug around files, however is it possible to use applications from the disk which are not installed on the computer? i presume the only way is to install an OS and boot from the portable disk, but am i wrong?

    The only one I know of is Portable Firefox: http://johnhaller.com/jh/mozilla/portable_firefox/

    There's loads, but they can be hard to find.

    The ones that I know of are:
    * Firefox
    * Thunderbird
    * Winamp
    * Filezilla

    It depends on the application (there are plenty that run stand-alone and don't need to reference system files, registry, etc.).

    By the way, CD creation tools such as Nero and Easy CD creator add a music player onto the compilation CD whenever you create a MP3 CD. This is a standalone program and would do the trick.
