    try here:

    http://support.microsoft.com/oas/def...x?&gprid=3223&

edit: sorry that;s the 32bit site, the 64 bit version is here:

It sounds like the support has to come from the OEM that supplied you the with the software...

You could download them directly from the MS site a while back, well that was a 180 day trial version - no idea if it was just the key that made it 'trial' or a different CD image.

ok, I've had a quiet weekend and put a some good time onto this, and took some of the advice and tools (you know who you are - Thanks !) you guys gave to me.

I've not finished this, but I have progressed it a fair bit, and thought I'd put up a progress summary.

I tried a lot of configurations but could not get XP64 to re-install onto my kit, I eventuall plumped for a full 32 and 64 wipe and re-install.

To my suprises XP32 would not install either, crashing complaining of MEMORY_MANAGMENT errors, PFL_LIST corruption and swap memory boundries being over stepped. Initially this pointed at drivers, so I stripped the machine down to cpu/video card/disks/dvd drive

I disabled the onboard nic, firewire, yanked out the SCSI card, disabled on board raid etc etc.

    Same errors - both xp32 and 64.

This made me a little worried.

As a happy co-incidence I have exactly the same motherboard (A8V delux) video card (BFG 6800GT OC) and ram (Crucial Balistix dual channel) in my HTPC, the only different is the CPU, its an AMD3200 instead of the FX55.

I did an XP32 and 64 install to this machine no problems at all.

the only other difference was the ram slightly - in that on my main machine I have Crucial balistix 2x1gb in dual channel, the HTPC has 2x512 of the same ram.

I pulled a sim out of the main machine and ran it in 1 stick mode.

32 and 64 bit - striaght on - no problems, on to the sata disks via additional drivers.

this made me think the memory may be faulty.

I ran memtest for 8 hours - 0 errors reported. Used some of the tools on the ultimate boot cd - 0 errors, used stresslinux to batter RAM/CPU/IO - 0 errors. I stuck the 2 gig into the HTPC - no problems.

I'm going to try putting the 2 gig back into my desktop to see how it behaves and then start adding the hardware back in, things like the SCSI card.

It does however look like the ASUS av8 using Bios 1014 (I've not gone to 1015 due to a lot of reported bugs - yet its still on the site ????) doesn't like 2 gig of ram in at install time for a windows install. I must stress a windows install as I installed 2 32 bit and 64 bit linux distro's with 2 gig in - 0 problems. Somewhere in one of the drivers there must be a problem with 2 of ram (I suggest this due to the memory / driver exceptions at install time).

I'd be really interested in hearing from anyone else with an a8v delux with 2gig ram.

well as you can see, its not a complete update, but its progressing.

Thanks for the input so far.
    It is Inevitable.....
