    Windows xp64 - Drivers

    Hey all,

Just did a fresh installation with windows xp 64 bit edition. All working nicely, but hp haven't got any drivers for my printer! >.<

I was looking to get a cheap samsung laser printer but that doesn't have a driver for windows xp64 also. Any xp64 users have this problem? Can i just install the printer as a standard one?

Also, i have a xfx game controller, i take it this isn't going to work any longer? (unless i install it as a generic one?)

    Thanks all

You might find a compatible printer driver in the list of built-in ones in XP x64.

I have an HP PhotoSmart printer which doesn't have 64-bit drivers available, so as far as my machine is concerned it is an "HP DeskJet 990c".
This setup advice comes from HP themselves via their KB.

I'm not certain if you will find a compatible driver, and if you do whether all the bells & whistles will be available, but it's worth a shot.

I am also waiting on HP for 64-bit drivers for my Pavilion tower system and the "nx" 64-bit Turion notebook range, both released before any Windows x64 drivers have been produced.

I think there trying to point out that every time a new version of Windows comes out, its hard to get drivers for it straight away.

Personally I installed XP x64 on a simple box last week, and got 90% of the drivers I needed, unfortunatly couldnt get a driver for some robotic DVD duplicator we use, so had to abandon the install but apart from that, everything was installed with a driver.

Had to use some BETA copies for the SATA controllers, but everything else was release.

because windows, as TheAnimus will point out repeatedly, has a well-defined HAL, making it trivial to use a win2k driver on winxp, or a win98 driver in winme, etc etc etc - whereas for xp64, you don't get any such privileges
