jeus christ - this is AGAIN for you uni project.

first you had no idea - then I gave you an idea - now your asking for the best way to do MY idea.

Do you do anything for yourself ??

this is supposed to be your final year uni project, instead of askng pretty much the people of hexus and god knows how many other places on how to best do YOUR uni work - why not do a bit of research, build a couple of basic methods, try some ideas, see what works best for YOU.

Someone even commented that doing it wrong and explaining why you did it wrong will still get you a good mark compared to doing it right because somoene on hexus did it for you.

Library is a good source in my opinion. I imagine there are books covering networked text based communications

    I'm saying 6 of 1 / half a dozen of the other.

If you din't infuriate him quite so much , perhaps he wouldn't be quite so venomous ?

FWIW most IM applications can do both , Client Server for directory services and p2p for the conversations themselves.

You can both start again please, no personal insults in my forum.

As a matter of personal advice though, you will learn and achieve far more if you at least invesigate the solution yourself and ask specific questions rather than a blanket "How Do I Do This ?" That approach only engenders scorn.

My suggestion would be to go read through the jabber protocol docs/source, should give you good ideas on how to do it right. Dont copy huge chunks of it though, you will get caught.

    Jonney,

What are your feelings on it?.

Do you feel p2p is achievable?, how would you implement this without a central server?. How would you know who is online?....

Also depends on what language you plan to write the application in. Different languages lend themselves to different technologies better than others...

Give us some more information, and we can give some better answers.
