    Finding out windows versions?

Got a PC in our workshop which has winxp on it, but we've had to change the mobo. As you'd expect, windows isn't booting up.

Is there an easy way that I've totally overlooked, to find out whether it's Pro or Home that's on there? Using some sort of boot disk or anything?

Just open up "boot.ini" (it's in the main directory), and it will tell you in there what it boots from.. but should be labeled Windows XP Professional, or Home, etc.

Yup as XA04 said, but to get at the file you need a boot disc with the correct drivers and tools that can read NTFS partitions

I favour Hirens Boot CD (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/hiren.thanki/bootcd.html)
which I actaully have labled as 'the magic CD' as it is the most useful PC recovery disc (along with windows CDs) that I own.

Is there any reason that you need to know if it is XP home or Pro by the way? If it is for re-installing you can just use Pro to do it, and then convert it to home afterwards if needbe (winbeta released a tool to do this, makes a few registry changes and converts your pro to home/hometo pro etc)
