goto device manager
choose the ones with '?' symbol (coz those aint got drivers)
right click on it, and u can choose update driver
point it to the folder with the drivers files
voila
nothing like you install on linux ????
use the methods above, and when prompted use the "specify a location" option and point it at where the driver is located.
It is Inevitable.....
Ill go try that thanks, i just remember trying to install something on linux but i didnt have an installer lol, only link.

I have found the ? items but, and listed there are two cardbus ports, which is what i am looking for, but, i have the drivers which came with the laptop, but i cannot find the correct one to use and i have tryeda a few, ill show you what i have to work with:
It is a sony laptop, running xp home:
? in device manager:
IEEE 1394 Controler
Pci to CARDBUS Bridge
Pci to CARDBUS Bridge
Unknown Device
Unknown Device
Unknown Device
Driver Folders:

LCD_inf
OpticalDriver32Bit
SmartConnectINF

Which one goes with which, i have tryed most of them together, but it just says "the file contains no information about your device"
I also have the "newest" drivers from the sony website but these appear to be the same. but are called slightly different folder names.

doesn't look like the driver is in that lot, unless its the smart connect stuff, which is a driver set ?
I doubt it though

By the looks of it your missing your chipset drivers.
Have you tried using windows update on custom, it will probably find all the drivers if they've been vetted by MS.
throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)
As far as i can tell it uses a via chipset.
So i downloaded this http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx...D=1&CatID=1070
But it does not seem to have had made any difference.

if you read what the 4in1 package contains, it doesn't contain any cardbus information
It is Inevitable.....
What section would card bus be in then?

via is probably not your cardbus provider
check out the specs on the sony viao you have and find out who makes he card bus, visit their site and download, or you could ring sony and ask for the recovery CD, Sony also has drivers on its website for its products,
check out windows update, I think that was also suggested in this thread.

for some reason i can not get onto the ms update site (it worked before) but have a quick troubleshoot on that later.
I just run belarc advisor, what would be the cardbus here?
Controllers
Standard floppy disk controller
Primary IDE Channel [Controller]
Secondary IDE Channel [Controller]
Bus Adapters
VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller (2x)
Conexant-Ambit SoftK56 Data,Fax Modem

Dhcp Server: 192.168.0.1

I believe its the .inf file that roughly explains what the drivers are......
Try that!
Woohoo now Assistant Manager!
I have found that the cardbus drives are Texas Instruments (TI) PCI1420 CardBus Controller
I got this from the driver guide toolkit program.
There is a link to get this driver from driverguide.com but the driver list part of driverguide.com does not work for me.
I have googled it and all i have found is a driver mabe by a studnent for his laptop, but, it is just a system file by itself, how do i install that to see if it works?
Or, does anyone else know where i can get the correct driver from?

well, its a sony laptop - so sony's website is a good start,
the recovery CD perhaps ?
I would also look at your general config
Microsofts windows update site is not working for you
driverguide.com is not working for you
Two very main stream and available sites - if they are not working for you - perhaps there is something wrong.
I personally wouldn't install a driver written by an unknown student without a specific reason when the texus cardbus drivers are very widely available.
