do you mean a software firewall that blocks outbound connection attempts?
throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)
Sound like it to me,
but he doesnt want to use ZA so any other alternative should be fine I would think.

Why do you not want to install ZoneAlarm? You'll have to install some personal firewall software to do this..
If you don't want it running locally then it would have to be a hardware firewall monitoring the ports and looking a the packets to see what they've been sent from. ISA will do this (if you have alot of money!!!). Not sure if the free 'hardware' firewalls like IPCop, Smoothwall, Monowall e.t.c. (or any addons for them) do this.
It's got a term and atm I can't remember it!
Matt - I have a suspicion that ISA needs a client installed to provide application level access.
but in broad principle , you;d need a firewall that is actually acting as a proxy where it can examine http packets but its not foolproof without a locally installed agent.
If you dont want to install ZA , can I recommend Outpost pro - mainly because you can run it as a service and not have any popups ( if you so desire ) , and once you've locked the application down and set config passwords its pretty invisiable

Thanks for the suggestions, i could install ISA server, but that would mean some work & i really CBA atm...
Will give Outpost a try.
Thanks
