Chances are good that the MKV uses h.264 for the video encoding, so you should be able to do a video and audio stream copy operation using avidemux without the lossy recompression artefacts handbrake would introduce. It's not the most user-friendly programme in the world, but it's very handy.

Thanks for the replies. A friend has recommended rebox.net and Xilisoft video converter. Any good do you think?

Unless there's a specific need that's not covered by the previous suggestions then I don't think you need to buy commercial software. Rebox looks like a gui to the program aidan suggested, so might be worth a look.

Just tried Rebox, seems to do the job quickly and without fuss.

I used to use http://www.appgeeker.com/topics/conv...o-mp4-mac.html back in the olden days when I had MKV files.

    Re: MKV files to MP4

I'd suggest MediaCoder or Handbrake. If you're going with Handbrake then there are a couple of decent batch encoding addons available for free. They should tide you over until the (fingers crossed) day that batch stuff is included as a default option.

On MediaCoder it's simpler on the surface, especially with batch work but it will start nagging. The most frequent I've seen is every 4 files from a batch of 20+. It's fine if you're sat there but if you plan to 'set and forget' batch encode then I recommend the Handbrake + 3rd party addon route.

Also note that the MediaCoder Pro software is a totally different beast. The comments above are only for the totally free version.
