    Patching before connection?

My father in law is still on a dialup connection. I've just reformatted his PC, and it comes with SP2 on.

What I'd like to do is download all the patches that have been issued since SP2, burn them on to CD and then take them to his house to load that way, rather than spending hours on windows update. Is this possible or even viable?

Yep. In fact, it's preferable to have a CD with the patches on in case you ever have to reinstall Windows on your own computer.

OK - is there any way of filtering out windows updates? I've been on to the windows security page on MS and there seem to be 1,800 downloads :-S

Do a search for all post SP2 updates there

    Yep to both of those!
Plus that isn't the most accurate in the world. I have applied all of teh post SP2 patched there and windows update has still found a few patches to download!
They are however very usefull for slipstreaming updates

I used it myself, err once or twice. Quite handy if you can't use windows update for whatever reason

As its not microsoft, i dont know how reliable it is though? (thats why i questioned it.)

I'm trying it on my work PC now (which is updated anyway)

Seeing as it's a new install on my father in law's PC with nothing on, it doesn't matter if it doesn't work properly anyway!

Seems to be working ok now, so it looks like you've saved me a load of time there

It does seem to be well supported etc.

I'm just not sure what happens when you use it to update, then go to windows update, i'm guessing windows checks and says everything is fine.

But there is always an update for autopatcher when microsoft release new updates.

EDIT: How many times can you use the word 'update' in a post

Its just a package of all the windows updates that you can download manually, going onto Winodws/Microsoft Update afterwards will show a fully-patched machine upto the build of that version of AutoPatcher you are using, any further updates can be done so as usual through the site.

Just keep your version of AutoPatcher up to date using the smaller, monthly update releases rather than downloading the full thing again
