    EchoVNC (or Encrypted VNC)

at the moment we have 5900 open internall for VNC connections to our internal pc's - we are looking at opening/using VNC with our sales guys who are out on the road. but all data needs to be encrypted.

having done a tiny google, ive found EchoVNC. how is this?

is it any good? is it secure?

we currently use RealVNC throughout the company (free edition) - i use UltraVNC.

If im correct, we could replace RVNC with EchoVNC and be safe with the knowledge that we can open 5900 and allow in/outbound connections? or would we just need to open 5900 outbound?

At work I use TightVNC to manage/monitor most desktop's, but when it came to installing it on an older machine (Probably without it's true VGA drivers, but it didn't need them, headless PC.) it didn't work so I tried UltraVNC which did, however I did notice some major lag using UltraVNC compared to TightVNC.

As far as security is concerned, i can't really help. We are also using it internally only, and with only 12 staff or so it's not like we have a hacker in the midst.

Maybe configure it for a port other than non 5900? Security through obscurity and all that.

I presume you are using non XP machines here?
If not, use the built in remote assistance client. Impelemented properly it is vastly superior to any VNC implementation available, being faster and more secure (its encrypted out of the box)

You should look into some sort of VPN software that allows for encryption. Make all of the servers people will be connecting to only accessable from inside the network. You should be able to use any VNC client with that setup.
