Don't forget you need 64bit drivers for all of the components in the system

99% of applications will just work. theres not alot around at the moment that actually benefits from the 64bit, but its nice to have a play. i've been running xp64bit for about 8 months with little trouble.. there is a mild (~1-5%) performance boost for 32 bit games as well..

As with 5lab, I've been running 64bit since it was available as final, and prior to that as a beta, and have had no issues with it. Support for apps is still limited, but if you have a properly oced 64bit app it's got to be worthwhile trying.

For all the time it'll take you to install X64 or dual boot it, I say go for it.

i've got 1 gig and its fine - normally ~800 megs free. only had 512 to start with and that was a little slow.

Drivers just aren't mature enough yet. Most games (well WoW - what else do you need? ) ran like an absolute dog in 64.

The only reason I'd run xp64 as my main OS would be if I did lots of 3d stuff or media encoding. Even if there's no 64bit specific apps these kinda things benefit from the 64bit OS. Or if I had >4gb ram

Only thing I've come across that's 64bit is stuff like SQLServer2005 64bit. Errr... not a lot else really

actually, normal 32 bit apps get a boost when running on a 64bit os on a 64bit cpu, versus a 32bit os on the same 64bit cpu

It's hit and miss. You can't just say "all 32bit apps run faster".

Things that are memory intensive like the apps I pointed out can see a gain, some apps see a decrease in performance due to overheads. Check out the numerous benchmarks and comparisons on the net if you don't believe me (too lazy to search google myself)
