    Web Making

Rite guys, my dad just asked me if i could make him a small web page for his rally team. They have already bought the domain (not sure where from or exact name).

Its only going to be a 3-5 page site, and all im looking for is a program for making web pages, i dont really know much about building sites as ive never done it before (done it in yahoo's tool and geocities tho).

I used to have microsoft office with front page before i formatted my PC and as i never built the original PC i never had the discs. So it must be free, if it has built in tutorials etc thats even better.

    Thanks

EDIT: Also i think ill need a FTP uploading program aswell wont i?

In all honesty, look for a CMS script (Content Management Script) all you do is upload it to the FTP space then fill in the pages much like a forum for example, its the simiplist way to get up and going....
Please do not message me about Scan Free shipping, I no longer work for HEXUS.net

I've heard good things about Nvu, which is based on Mozilla (the Composer bit).

You can try a lot of them out at OpenSourceCMS. I recommend PHP-Nuke.

I second the recommendation to head to OpenSourceCms.com if you want to check out CMSs but differ in my opinion on *-Nuke. Try Joomla, it's a fork of Mambo which is what opensourcecms.com itself is running.

I also think a CMS is massive overkill for 5 static pages but it's your call.

As an avid CMS user.... i'd advise against using one for just 5 pages...

Thanks for all the replys guys. What exactly is a content manager script?
The site will originaly only be 3-5 pages but i was thinking of making my own site (larger) so would i be good to go with a CMS to get used to it?

A CMS is usually used for sites that need to be updated often (such as a news site). You can try some on the site I mentioned above.

you really don't need a cms based site.

5 static pages... just create them in notepad, but that means learning a little html first. i wouldn't expect you to go out and buy dreamweaver but what you could do.... use the trial version to build the site, save the pages locally then edit them in notepad and manually upload them...
I am trying to see it your way, but I can't get my head up my arse
