Force Windows Colour Depth

I apologise now if ive posted this in the wrong place

I have a rather unusual question / problem.
I have setup an old P2 400 system with an old Nvidia 128zx card to be a download box running XP. Im using the latest version of VNC to remote control the system.

The problem that i have is everytime i boot the system without a monitor it defaults to 4Bit colour depth.
Is there any way to force a desktop depth ? Anyway to fool the system to work without a monitor.

I prefer to use VNC as it gives me full control over the system compared with Remote Desktop

Any help would be appreciated

Luckly ive managed to fix the problem. Added a /basevideo switch the boot.ini
