Hi,

I've just bought a 250GB SATA hard drive and want to transfer my old operating systems using partition magic onto the new drive.

I have a dual boot scenario using bootmagic on my original 120GB IDE drive (Disk 0), both running XP. The first partition for general use, the 2nd just for games. I also have a 60GB IDE drive (disk 1) set as slave that stores my music.

I have transfered both paritions using Partition Magic to my new SATA drive (disk 2), and have then added the new paritions to the Boot Magic menu, adjusting the boot.ini file as appropriate. The problem is that when I try to boot into one of the new partitions (using Boot Magic) the boot.ini file from the original IDE partition is shown as the choice from the XP boot menu. It seems the new partitions on my SATA drive are dependent on the original partitions, hence I can't delete them and have them just running from the new SATA drive.

I also tried installing XP from scratch onto the SATA drive and this created the same dependency.

Boot magic is installed on a logical partition on the 120GB IDE drive and am wondering if this is causing a problem. I'm also wondering if it has something to do with the Master Boot Record?

I've scoured the web and can't find any reasons for this happening.

Any help appreciated.

Many thanks,

Will
