Mac (10.3) wants to see my windows shares

got a mac that i want to give access to my windows shares. the mac runs osx 10.3 and the pc, windows xp. my windows machines can see the windows share fine. the mac not so.

is the easiest way samba? and if so, does samba go on the windows machine or the mac?

as per the link that is what u need to do

easiest way is on finder, click go > connect to server

and then just type smb//ipaddress (e.g. smb//192.168.98.21) and then add it to you fave servers

then a box will come up asking which folder/drive you wish to add, and once it is connected it will be added to your desktop!

(to find the pc ip address go to run> type in 'cmd' then as a command write 'ipconfig' (all without the '' and it will come up with the windows ip address; that worked for me!)

presumably you need Samba running, somewhere, for this to work straight up (smb//10.1.1.1) ?

or is samba part of windows. if so, smb//10.1.1.1 aint workin

My guess'd be that you're missing a colon? as in smb://10.1.1.1

samba's not part of windows - the SMB protocol (and CIFS superset) are part of windows, and the samba project is an open-source reimplementation for unix-like platforms (i.e. linux)

i actually got off my arse and went to the mac, and had a play. i managed to connect to the server and necessary files, by simply providing a valid user/pass in AD.

should have done this first before postin
