Can anyone recommend me any web development tools that are free or open source. I'm looking to start doing a few websites using PHP and MySql and probably HTML and XML too. But i can't find any decent tools to make a start and i don't fancy getting a dodgy copy of dreamweaver. If there are no suitable tools available what do people recommend for starting to script in the above languages.
Any help would be much appreciated :)

i like to use MySQL Front for the database - saves some coding and can simplify coding the database, saved my ass many times at uni :lol: - nice little program and of course its free :mrgreen:
I use Max's HTML beauty. It's as what it says on the box ;)
If you consider installing a linux distro on your system, there are quite a number of IDE's for developing PHP apps/websites.
Think I'm looking for the same thing really. I'd like a free dreamweaver replacement for windows, but I think it's unlikley there'd be a decent one about.
I just had a quick look at max's HTML beauty, but that doesn't seem to have a WYSIWYG feature (unless I just missed it :p).

or OOo's html output isn't bad (though it's not great, and the best bit of dreamweaver is the combined wysiwyg-code view)

HTML-Kit, gives you a code view and inapp previews. IMO youre better of learning to do it from mark up anyway.
