    norton ghost...

...is it worth it? planning to scrub my OS partition on the hdd cause its starting to slow down. I have all important files etc saved but want to reduce the damage as much as possible in terms of reinstallation, drivers and programs reinstallation - cause after windows thats going to take the time...any help towards this would be great.

Hmmm - all Ghost lets you do is take a snapshot of your drive - If you reinstall Windows I'm afraid you'll still need to reinstall drivers etc. if you have the space I'd take an image first (the amount of times I've been certain I have everything backed up...) as a failsafe though. Once you have it all setup (drivers, programs installed etc) take another image - you can then revert to this in future if things get too screwy.

Have you bought an imaging package yet? As Fuddam says the Acronis software is much better these days...

Basically you install the software, point it at your Windows partition (or whichever one you wish to backup really) and tell it where you want to save the image. When it comes to restoring the image you boot from the bootable CD that you can make with the software, point it at the image and tell it which partition/drive to restore to. Hope that makes sense - if not lemme know and I'll knock something a little more involved up in the morning (I have a train journey to kill...)
