    Problems inserting videos into PowerPoint

I'm having problems inserting videos into PowerPoint presentations. Basically what happens is that various parts of the program (text buttons, menu bars etc) become "transparent" with a green colour showing through. The program slows so much as to be unusable, and the effect "bleeds through" into other programs. The problem seems linked to file size i.e. a smaller file will create less disruption (although it still won't work).

Does anyone have any ideas what's going on?

It's my Samsung x20 laptop. 1.6GHz Celeron, Intel 915G chipset etc. Thing is, it plays the actual videos wthout any problems. I should have mentioned they're .wmv files. I'm trying to find an avi file to try now.

[edit] Found an avi file and it works. Need to try an mpeg now.
