I cant be of any major help, but seeing as you’ve got an ATi card, you wont get near the performance of windows.
I’ve recently been stung by this. Playing UT2004 under Ubuntu compared to windows using a ATi card is laughable.
ATi's Linux driver support is poor poor poor

Yeah, for video gaming, don't even think about ATI in Linux. Hell, ATI drivers don't even support some of the more advanced features of X.

Yup, ATi + Linux Gaming = Give up now. Hence why I've now got a nVidia card. That was the major factor when I chose to buy.

looks like the game has been known to run, but i can't comment on how well nor on whether it'd be playable on an ATI

you could always email ubisoft & ask them about a linux version

i think this is worth following up on, since it really goes to highlight a lot of things about desktop linux today

the main reason people insist that linux isn't worth using is games - there are a few, more can be made to run via technology, but essentially you need XP for games.

    and that's a reasonable viewpoint.

the problem is, the developers and publishers don't make games for linux, because nobody's using it. that, yossarian, is what we call a catch 22.

so let's say, for the sake of argument, that zakky here is actually enjoying his Linux experience - the big problem being he can't play the games he wants. the only solution is for him, and people like him, to say so, politely and concisely - in this case, by sending a letter to:
    Code:
    UBISOFT
    Chantrey Court
    Minorca Road
    Weybridge
    Surrey
    KT13 8DU
explain the situation - that you've been shown Linux, that you really like it, but that your life is incomplete without spending money on $PUBISHER's products - and that you'd really love it if they could port their game to Linux.

It's not rocket science - Epic's Mark Rein stated on record that 'the Linux community deserves a token of thanks for helping on the server end, that a native Linux client is worth our time'. Most developers are constrained by what the publishers feel is worth investing in - so let the publishers know how you feel.

so tell ubisoft. you can get 3d working (e.g. to play quake4) with ati's drivers and the guidelines on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI - but getting your game to work well relies on ubi being made aware of a desire for linux games
