Just a quick heads up. The lastest Foobar, the last word in PC audio players, is available now for those interested - http://www.foobar2000.org/

The only thing with foobar is its severly lacking a window shade mode, if it had one id use it all the time, as it is winamp + mmd3 ftw

You may not like it. You see, Foobar is one of those programs you try and don't like at first. But then later on you think, 'i really wish i could do'.. 'how can i'... etc, and someone says "foobar can do that". Then you realise all the power and flexibilty that was hidden under that simple interface all along.

for me, it's ability to transcode between just about any format is its killer feature. and the fact that it transfers tags and meta data between the files is even better

I've used FB2K for a long time now.

The basic setup is pretty ugly and I guess that scares a lot of people off at first glance.

However, once you've installed columns_ui and added a style like Azrael, it starts to look pretty damned good.

I guess the cover art plugin (the new one in 0.8 with the fading transitions) will probably take a few weeks to be upgraded to 0.9, but once that's done it really is the best thing out there.

Transcoding from anything to anything, replaygain tagging, masstagger for file renaming, and freedb tagging make it almost perfect for me. Especially the new freedb tagger which allows you to manually change tags before you add them.

About the only thing it can't do (although I must confess I haven't really looked into it yet) is upnp, which would be a nice bonus.

I'll wait a few months for plug-ins to be updated and everything seems stable...

But yea, Foobar is one of the uglist program when you first install/run

    Steep learning curve too.

I would not say it's ugly, it's jusy plain and simple. I guess people are just now used to fancy skins. Personally i'm not bothered about looks, so long as it works.
