Fedora Core 5, Ubuntu 5.10, SUSE 10.0... any of those should be fine. Fedora and SUSE come on a few CDs, Ubuntu comes on just one.

SuSE is probibly the easiest to configure the system, YaST is a very good system configuration tool, the only problem with it is the RPM based package system. Fedora cronically lacks choice of software though, so it wouldn't get my vote, Kubuntu is better in this regard.

Mepis has excellent codec support out of the box. None of the above distro's do, oob wise. Mepis is also a LiveCD and installCD in one
