    msconfig

Just re installing for a mates kid....and thought I'd check msconfig to see just how much old rubbish was running on this poor little Duron machine.

I have worn out a mouse wheel scrolling down.....

    mad.

Does EVERY SINGLE Hardware & Software manufacturer insist on filling peoples PC's with bloatware? The kids got a printer/scanner, a wireless mouse and keyboard, my old favourite (not) Real Media Player and MSN..... a few not subtle search engines for her task bar...etc etc.

The thing was on it's knees...and no wonder. It's amazing it ever made it to Windows Desktop

    Onward......Format and awaaaaayyyyyyyy

Dont forget to check the services tab too, thats where the real nasties turn up. I like the fact that ZoneAlarm (Pro) tell me when ever something tries to add itself to the list. Funny how never adding the scanner/printer/media player/etc stuff never really make any difference to the performance/functionality of the respective hardware and software, it just turns your PC into a Commadore 64.

    agreed Trig.

And after every single hardware install with drivers.

Logitech....you should be ashamed of ya self.
Epsom....blimey oh reilly....WHERE dod that lot come from!

Eitherway...PC is lightning quick now It's amazing how good those Duron's are even now.

512mb DDR, nforce mobo with integrated soundstorm and geforce2 MX. 1200 duron.

One very happy young lass, now merrily playing The SIms and MSN'ing her mates are record speed.

You couldn't squarely place the blame on the software. It's a person problem. Some people think they can do whatever they like to a relativly complex piece of kit without any researched or background knowledge.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.
