    Bluetooth Headset Program

Hi all, im looking into a project for my final year at university and am considering the possibility of creating a voice recognition program. My previous experience with programs like this was that if for example music was playing then the voice rec wouldn't work so my idea was to use a Bluetooth headset as a microphone (I am aware how to pair with my PC and set it up as a microphone) however I was wondering if it would be possible so that when a button was pressed on the headset it would send a signal to the PC which (provided the program was running) be picked up by the program and would mute the volume and begin voice recognition.

So basically for a BT headset paired with a PC, is there anyway for the PC to receive and recognise a button being pressed.

Thanks again all, strange Q I know but any help would be great.

erm, first off, just to check you know, most bluetooth headsets compress the audio horrifically (often using GSM codecs). I don't know if that would effect voice recognition thou.

The button, it depends on the headset and the os and the driver. My headset the buttons increase its own internal volume/decrease, and switch it on or off.

the button that awnsers calls, becomes pair/unpair. If you foolishly press it, it simply de-activiates the audio device in windows, thus making it useless. That might be the toshiba drivers thou.

Yeah i did think it compressed the audio and was hoping to first try it to see what results were achieved without going too far. After doing some more research with most headsets available I think u might be right, the only button really available for execution of programs will just disconnect from the PC. I'll do some more digging and thanks for the advice TheAnimus, think it might be a lost cause lol.

No matter, just have to have a different idea.

you could try doing something for the PDA/smartphone

some form of voice nagivation would be quite narly!

ie, you could take an ipaq like a 5000 series, and make some software (easily in .net) that recognised speach. Then output it via the CIR (consumer infra-red) port so you could control the TV or somehting.
