Nod32 is also worth a look in the antivirus department. Also Microsoft's anti-spyware solution doesn't seem too bad either & its' free, well for the time being anyway. Plus Sygate make a worthy firewall. Can't beat a h/w one tho.

According to the Wilders forum NOD32 is in the process of integrating a firewall into their product, but no firm release date has been given.

I thought KAV also had a firewall too, unless it's a beta product.

Kaspersky has top-level detetction rates to the point where you are unlikely to need a separate anti-spyware application (be it SpySweeper or Outpost's Anti-Spyware plugin). Instead, just use a non-IE browser (Firefox and Opera being good choices) and Outpost's Active Content plugin to limit what websites can get up to.

There have been some reports of problems getting Kaspersky and Outpost to work together (see the Outpost forum thread Outpost 3.51 and Kaspersky 6.0.299) but these seem to be fairly uncommon.

    I'd second NOD32 - excellend product.
A little off topic (ish) but I'd also recommend using the excellent PsExec to run your browser as a limited user (assuming that you're logging in as admin).
I have used Kerio firewall in the past and that was good - not looked at it for a while now though.

I use NOD32 and my router as a firewall. I have never had a virii infect my pc, and any that tried, NOD32 caught and banished easily. I used to use spyware doctor aswell, i found this was a good program, but took up a fair amount of resources as it ran in realtime.

KAV/NOD32 there isnt any other recommendation in my book. You cant beat a hardware firewall though, get an old pc, bung in 2 nics, install linux... setup ip tables et voila !

In terms of working with Kaspersky, there's likely to be little difference - as I've said, a minority of people have reported issues. Try checking the Kaspersky Forum (and their Beta Forum) for any outstanding issues.

An external firewall is great for filtering incoming traffic, but only a software firewall can control what programs are allowed to send data out on your system, which can be a key factor in blocking/alerting people to undetected malware (as well as "phone-home" software).

Kaspersky has superb detection rates in all the serious comparative reviews of AV products.

Cant fault either NOD32 or Kaspersky tho NOD has the smaller footprint i opted for kaspersky as it tended to get rid of dodgy files better than NOD that very often said couldent be cleaned or deleted. Both work well
