    Windows XP and SATA

    Hey everyone

I recently purchased a game that requires windows XP to play, the only (and major) problem is that i have a SATA HDD and it does not want to ackknowledge that my harddrive exists when i try to install windows XP.

I have looked on guides on how to avoid this problem and they all say that i need toi copy the files from my motherboard support disk. Well the problem is i dont think i have the disk anymore, either that or i do and i just cant find the files on the CD's i have tried.

Does anyone know where to download the necessary files so i can put them on a floppy and do my windows XP installation? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

PS. Sorry if there are typos in here, i am not calm .

Okay dude, deeeep breaths. Your motherboard requiers SATA drivers to allow windows to install. These can be found either on the support disc's driver section (try looking on the disc with windows explorer) or probably on the manufacturers website. If you tell us what motherboard your using we'll be able to help more.

Are you using XP with SP2 integrated to install ?
If so, then that should auto-detect virtually all SATA drives by default nowadays.....and you do not have to hit F6 to install additional drivers.

Therefore, if you're not using XP with SP2 to install, try doing so. You can streamline a standard copy of XP with SP2 by reading this -> http://tomshardware.co.uk/2004/09/08...windowsxp_and/

    Good luck

I am using windows xp that has service pack 2 but the bios is still not picking up my harddrive.

Anyhow, i thiiiiiink that my motherboard is an an7 - socket 462 system board. I went to the ip address on the manual which is www.abit.com.tw but could not see my motherboard there. Although there is a good possibility that my parents were related before they married and that that is not a motherboard manual at all.

So unless my floppy disk magically turns up i think i might be doomed?

If your motherboard is the AN7 download this:

    ftp://ftp.abitshop.com/pub/driver2/sli3112/v10050.zip

Then copy the contents of the folder called disk within the zip file to a floppy disk.
