"cannot render file" error msg for WMV in MPC

After starting up a new install, Ive completely ditched Windows Media Player and opted for Media Player Classic. . . which is working great unless it's playing WMVs - I get a "cannot render file"

Now I had this before, when I had Windows Media Player and K-lite mega codec pack - now I have just MPC + K-Lite Full Codec pack (more updated than the last codec pack I had installed).

I've searched google and the only solution Ive found was untick the WM ASF reader for windows media files, but that didn't work.

The other solution was to install windows media player . . . which kinda defeats the purpose. :(

Any ideas, before I grudgingly install Windows Media Player?
