    Video converting software

    What do you recomend ?

I need somthing that will allow me to select the output codec, its quality, ect...
Also it needs to have the options to just convert it to a different codec (ie, resolution, quality roughly the same)
Doesnt need to be free (although thats a big +), but nothing over about £30.

    Cheers

often the best (fast, high quality encoding, lets not scare the apple fans with such notions) software depends entirely on the source and destination. For instance i've yet to come accross anything quite as quick as flask mpeg for extracting from .vob files.

What are you wanting to convert? MPEG-1/2, AVI, MOV, VOB etc.

http://www.doom9.org/ is my usual haunt for stuff like this, although there are sometimes better tools elsewhere. Lots of guides there too.

VirtualDub and its derivatives (VirtualDubMod and NanDub) are great for AVI to AVI and MPEG to AVI in the case of VirtualDubMod.

TMPEGEnc is a fantastic MPEG encoder, lets you tweak just about everything you possibly can in an MPEG stream, but is't exactly speedy.
