    problem installing linux

    I have tried and tried

    Knoppix
    Mandrake 9.1
    Ark linux

    machine spec is:

    K6 333
    150mb ram
    Very old mobo
    5gb hard drive

    It wont install on any of the above.

    getting very bored with linux very quickly

    weird - do you get error messages? what happens when you try and install, what stage does it stop at.

    what graphics card do you have?

    have you tried redhat 8/9?

    Knoppix crashes on the desktop on all the desktop managers.

    Arklinux fals to initilise the installer

    Mandrake enters 2nd stage install and hangs

    Weird motherboard is probably root of prob - most of the k6-2 supporting boards were a bit odd at best.

    Should try Open or Free BSD. Open BSD's supposed to work on just about anything & will run Linux apps.

    i have a machine that always crashes when installing windows, no matter what version, however debian installs fine and flawlessly.
    i would agree with 0id's comment about bsd, but then again it's presumed you know more if you're installing bsd... same for debian/gentoo too i'd guess.

    don't give up yet!
