    running admin all the time

i know that if i didnt run as admin all the time i would be less vunrable to spyware but i have to run as admin all the time because sony have made there media player so you have to be admind to use it, so i got spysweeper to be covered, but who else runs as admin all the time and why?

Presumably you're using XP home here? I have to admit I run using an Admin account because until very recently there was only one account on my home box.

I've never really tried running with fewer permissions, but I imagine with a bit of tweaking it shouldn't be a problem. It would probably be easier in XP Pro which is a bit more rigorous and transparent with permissions.

At work it's a different story, on Dev boxes we're local admins, but on live stuff nothing runs with any more permissions than necesarry. Oh yes, and our graphic designer runs with absolutely no permissions at all (he almost has to ask a manager to read his emails )
They told me I was gullible ... and I believed them.

on windows, i use an administrator account all the time. too common are the client applications which demand admin access (and for whatever reason don't behave right using "run as") for me to use a non-admin account.

however, i rarely boot windows. and on linux, which has a far stronger heritage as a multi-user OS, i never log in as admin (and use "sudo" only for admin tasks like installing software)

Well, that's Sony for you, but if you right-click the shortcut for the program, choose properties, shortcut, click the "advanced" button, you should be able to choose a different account to run the program under by ticking the "Run with different credentials" box and choosing the user when you launch it.

An infinitely better plan, to be sure...although one suspects the poor bugger's been DRMed by a CD, or is stuck with a Sony portable.
