    Windows XP Upgrade Help

Hello everyone hope this proves to be short and sweet...

I am currently running Windows 2000 on my PC, and i have 2 harddrives with 3 partitions on each. One partition for games, music, downloads, misc and movies etc.

The primary partition that windows is installed on is C: along with the main programs, office, msn etc.

My question, is it possible to upgrade to XP Pro (to help me irradicate some bugs) without disturbing much, i.e. will XP install over windows 2000, but still leave program preferences, and of course the programs themselves?

I have a genuine XP Pro install, so will selecting upgrade, just install XP and remove all windows 2000 things, but let me still play my games and access programs and my documents as normal?

    Cheers

I'm not entirely sure of the answer, but I personally wouldn't take the risk, what with all the registry settings for programs, drivers and whatnot.

it *should* work, but that doesn't mean that it will. First run the software compatability checker on the CD - that will tell you things that definitely won't work. Then you could try it and wait to see - it won't break your machine, the worst case is that your programs won't work so you just need to backup and reformat.

It should work. I upgraded a friends old Win98 system to Windows XP years ago and everything seemed to work fine. You can also rollback iirc.

No matter which route you take, just don't forget to back up.
    Happy upgrading.

Might be best off doing a fresh install by formating the windows partition and then installing XP. (backing everything up beforehand of course)

Performance wise that would be the best method.
