Problem with BIOS recognising processor speed!

Hi everyone,

I have a problem with my BIOS settings. I have an Athlon XP 1800 processor which I believe should run at around 1.6GHz however windows is detecting and running it at only 1.25GHz. I know that it is to do with some settings in the BIOS but not sure which ones :-S Lots of people keep saying change the fbs to 133 rather than 100, but I do not have an fsb setting in my BIOS! Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance

I had the same problem with my old processor, the FSB was running at 100 when it needed to be at 133.

It should be in there somewhere to change, especially if it has changed.


What motherboard do you have?

Well there is an option of "Host control clock" (or words to that effect) and it is currently set on 100MHz, so unless it is this that needs changing but the thing is it can't be changed! It can't be highlighted within the BIOS. I have a MSI KT3 Ultra-2 Motherboard. Thanks XA04.

There may be a jumper on the motherboard to allow you to change between 100 and 133FSB...I'll have a look at your manual tomorrow if I get the chance

Just read the manual for your motherboard the option you need to change is in the Frequency/voltage control section of the bios once in there you can change the CPU Fsb clock from 100 to 133.

Thanks for checking it up Curly! I just tried it but when I restarted, my comp logged on and then it restarted itself, it then restarted itself once again while rebooting. So it is making the system unstable. I changed the FSB to 133Mhz although I had the option of changing it to anything from 100 to 220. I have now changed it back to 100. I know it should work as my processor only got rolled back when I updated the BIOS about a year ago, as before that it was being registered as 1.6GHz so it should work! Any more ideas? Thanks.

few things you could try (no guarantee that they'll work) in the same bios screen check and set the cpu ratio to 11.5 (xp 1800 = 1.53 = 11.5 x 133) you could also check your ram setting/timings, I would try them at spd setting and see how it goes, Good luck.

edit: just re-read your first post seems you have the cpu set at 12.5 at the moment x 100 by upping just the fsb to 133 that would make it 12.5 x 133 = 1.66 which maybe the cpu won't do, so lowering to 11.5 with the fsb @ 133 should work.
