    dvd drives

    Hi

    i used to have an nec drive and it wouldnt reconsise all discs in my drive.

    so today i got two brand new sony drives and it works great.

    btw if you have copy propteted cds that you want to put on your pc import in itunes and then convert them to mp3 in itunes and your done==p

    iTunes is a crap CD ripper. If the copy protection is decent, iTunes won't rip it. You have to use an old version of EAC to rip a non-redbook compliant copy protected disc. And you probably should have tried updating your drive's firmware before you got a new one. That usually works.

    I said competant. Personally i wouldn't trust iTunes or Windows Media Player to rip any disk correctly.

    I've yet to find a disk that my Plextor Premium CD-RW and EAC (latest version) cannot rip without issue. On an older non-premium Plextor and older EAC i had to tell it to find the real TOC (Table of Contents) for it to get a track listing and it would often sit grinding the CD and sometimes missed the last track (Beatles "Let it be...naked" is a good exaple).

    CDex is also pretty good.

    With iTunes you are limited to ripping to AAC, ALAC or MP3. At least with EAC and CDex you can rip to any lossless or lossy format you like.
