Activating HP Windows XP Professional SP2

I had installed the HP Windows XP professional SP2 on to a non HP pc and also was able to activate the product earlier but for some reason I had to reinstall it and now it just wont activate. I have tried at least 5-6 different keys taken from HP Machines but it does not work. Is there any way to remove the need to activate the OS because after 30 days it wont let me logg in without activation.

You'll probably find that what you are trying to do will violate the terms of the license agreement - something around the fact that the software is licensed to a specific machine. Not 100% sure but reasonably so. Annoying I know but I think thats the way it is..

what your proposing is against the EULA, easyiest way.....buy a legit copy and next time this happends you can phone MS up and get it re-activated.

The OEM Product key is tied to the HP machine (specificly the motherboard) you origionaly got the code from and using it on another machine is not legal.

If you want to activate it with that key you will need to ring the microsoft activation line and lie about the PC you have.

Actually I have already once activated the OS and it worked perfectly on the same machine so I does work on non HP machines.
Only this time it is giving a problem. I would not want to phone MS and lie about my pc. Is there any workaround to this problem?

As I said before what you propose is against the EULA and as such illeagl so no one is going to post a "workround" on here, do your self a favour and buy a legit copy or d/load one of the various forms of linux, end of problem.

Illegal in America, not the EU. Microsoft took a company to court in the EU for doing exactily this and lost. Its none of MS's business if you choose to use an OEM license on another machine.

    well no, it is illegal.

The OEM licence is none transferable..read through it, you are only allowed to install the software on the machine that it came with. XP is only, what, 50-60 quid these days anyway for OEM home edition, why not just buy that?

Dispite what Microsoft thinks, a license isn't law. They get away with it in the states, but the EU isn't having any of their nonsense.

hmm you may be right, insofar as licences are not laws - BUT as you know, by installing the software (any software, windows XP here) you agree to the EULA...so while actually installing the software may not be illegal so to speak, doing so breaks the EULA conditions, making the software unlicenced.

using unlicenced software IS illegal, correc?

I have read several times that in the EU OEM versions can be used on any computer again and again,
although I havent actually seen it reported in a news article.

you cant just put any conditions you feel like in a contract or license, if there are any unfair ones then
they can be invalid in the eyes of the law. So at the extreme you cant sign your life away etc.

I work for a large auk reseller. We are told that the HP versions of XP are bios locked and so can not be used on another PC? Same with the HP only versions of office. We get up to 20% discount of OEM prices for using HP locked software.

As for the legal implications, OEM is for one Machine only. Microsoft actually use the term illegal software so I don't think there fans of what you are trying to do. However if you search google for XP Activation Crack you will probably find a quick solution (not that I am approving of this)

Congratulations, you are now one step closer to funding organized crime, and tricking polish women into the sex trade!!!!

so as you say not illegal, but against the EULA that you agree to when install the os, do MS use different EULA for the US and the EU countries? am I right in thinking that oem copies are tied to the machine it's installed on and with the retail version you can install on a desktop and a laptop as long as there not used at the same time?

    How about this.....

If my laptop HD dies and I can't find a similar sized HD to use the system restore CD with, what should I do then? I would have lost my OEM installed version of XP and have a useless CD together with a useless OEM sticker on the bottom....

I doubt getting an Acer OEM copy of XP would be easy (correct me if I'm wrong), so I'd be stuck if the EULA is to be obeyed.

Is that right or have I missed something here?

your right I think - hence part of why OEM software is cheaper.
