Windows repair setup help!!!!!!!!

OK basically i booted up my PC this moring and got a blue screen saying, that windows had to shut down because of some error.

Error message: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Have all the latest drivers installed Catalyst 6.7 etc


OK, so i put in the OEM Windows CD, and clicked on the windows installation tab, and i ran the repair, and not the full installation of windows because it deletes, everything (obvisously), and i didnt want to do this at first, because i thought that running the repair, would sort out the problem.


Ok so, basically it runs fine until it gets to the installation of the devices, it says that it carnt find the location of some Ethernet file, so i put in the utilities CD that came with my mobo and install it from that, it does the same for an audio file, so i do the same. Then i comes to a network file, and then comes the problem.


My mouse and keyboard just switch off and i carnt use them, i have tried using another mouse and keyboard and they dont work. So i am unable to search for this file that it carnt find on the utilities CD, so the repair setup wont continue.


I have tried to escape the repair setup and it wont stop or abort. When i restart my PC it just continues with the repair setup, if i continue with the repair setup, without the windows CD in it comes up with a error and my system restarts.


Anybody have any ideas on what i can do.

Did you try to do a last known good before reinstalling windows?
I suspect that would have fixed your problem and taken about 30 seconds.

That said, try disabling your NIC through the BIOS and restarting the installation. Might get you far enough to get the latest and greatest drivers installed.

I've tried Windows 'repair' twice, and it's completely messed up my system both times. I seriously recommend never using it. Installing a fresh version of Windows will install the new OS into a different directory. Data in the 'My Documents' folder may be deleted if you specify the same user name, though sometimes it won't be.

You can try removing/disabling everything except the HDs, mouse and keyboard in BIOS and that might work, but I really think your best bet is to reinstall Windows into a different folder.

If you want to be sure you won't lose some critical data, the best thing is to download a Linux LiveCD and use that to burn the data onto an optical disc before doing anything else.

this is the exact reason i use one drive for windows and programs and another for the rest. at that point reinstalling becomes a minor irritation rather than a major hassle

Ive dont the repair, before and its been fine, but i was going to install a windows agian, but it said that it was likely that i would lose my documents etc, so i decided to run the repair.

Well im going to take in round to a mates tomorow (im in work today), and see ifit can be found on his PC as the second hard drive, then hopefully get my documents off it, then i will format it, then reinstall Windows completley.

Then i may order another hard drive and then use it as a backup drive/keep all my precious stuff on it.

never had any luck with the windows repairer. guess when things go wrong for me they go REALLY wrong... taking it round your mates is the best idea tbh. copy everything of importance then scrub the b*stard. on the bright side you'll have a nice fresh install to play with, and probably say things like "whoa this is really quick!" before it settles back down.

Sounds like a resource conflict maybe... try moving a pci card to a different slot...


and never use the repair

Also be aware, a repair install WILL DELETE your documents and settings folders..this means all MY DOCS DESKTOP and APPLICATION DATA (emails and savewgames often stored ere) WILL BE GONE

Right well i took my hard drive round to a mates and ive had it formated. But when i try and boot up, from the CD-Drive to install windows i get an error saying that 'The NTLDR is missing' WTF!!!!!!

I belive that i may have to make a bootbale floopy disk, or i can get the Bcupdate2 utility, or summin. Can anybody help?

You're *booting* from the Windows CD and getting this error?

If so, sounds like the CD or the CD-drive is messed-up. Try copying the CD to a new CD-R and give it another go.

yeah, im trying to install Windows XP onto my hardrive asfter i formated it. So i set the CD-Drive to the primary boot drive, and it comes up with this error after it says 'Boot from CD, press any key..... blah blah blah'.

Ok, the boot CD is not being read properly then. Try copying it to another CDR on a different computer (it isn't protected in any way). If that fails, then you need to get hold of a different Windows CD (friend, bittrorent etc).

I know the agony you're going through all too well, that's why I have 3 windows install CDRs with various levels of hotfixes and another 3 bootable WindowsPE discs.

I have caopied the CD, and tryed to use that, but it still comes up with the error. My DVD Drive works fine (i tested it in this PC (the one im using to type this)). I also got a Windows CD of a mate this morning which didnt do anything. But the error didnt comes up it just didnt get past the part where it says 'Boot from CD, press any key..... blah blah blah'.

So it may be my harddrive im not sure, becuase when i formated it yesterday, it said that there was 71.7MB taken up. Whos knows what that was.

So i may have to buy a new hard drive, and possibly a new Windows CD.

Ive got Windows installed up yours NTLDR file.

Im in the process of getting all my drivers, updates etc downloaded and installed, then its my games, then its music time.

Think im gonna buy a pen drive to back all my Stuff (Documents, i call it my 'Stuff') up, just incase this sort of thing happens again.
