    Win XP - How to make the machine load on its own

    Hi all,

    On a Mac you can make the machine turn it's self on at a certain time. Is there a way on XP or with a 3rd party application to do the same?

    Thanks all

    Darren

    I don't think it could be done with an application from a cold boot (Windows wouldn't be running, so an app certainly couldn't) - if the machine was in hibernate/standby mode it could be done I imagine, don't ask me how though

    You can often do this with a setting in the BIOS which will power on the machine at a particular time. The Tweak UI powertoy will let you set windows up so it logs in straight away....if you wanted to run an application just stick it in the startup folder!

    Yeah, the BIOS of my mobo lets you set a time to power up.

    TV recording apps can pull the system out of hibernation, so if you do it that way it can be done through windows. Not sure what standalone app would do this, though.

    From a complete cold boot it's gotta be the BIOS, I think.

    So basically I've just reiterated what the other guys have said
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Its not an OS feature, its a BIOS one.

    You can also use "Wake on LAN" as a useful alternative thou, this allows you to wake a PC up over the network.

    Yes if the network card/mobo supports this then you can send it a 'magic packet' to boot it up. You can also do this via a modem ring but again only if the BIOS supports it.
