How do you stop Word doing all its fancy crap?

Like checking with the internet when you copy something from IE, and all its annoying auto-format everything you do when you're just trying to create a simple bullet-point list, and you tab once and it does nothing, so you press tab again and it moves it in, but then you start typing and the text is two-tabs in!

I just want Word 97 back

    Two options,

Use Wordpad - perfectly acceptable text editor for general stuff, or buy Wordperfect. Yes it is still available (now in Wordperfect Office Version 13) and it still knocks Word into a cocked hat. (I'm using WP 9 atm and kicking myself for not buying WP Office 12 for £50 in PC World as they were selling off old stock to make way for the new!)
