Setting up a box as a Domain Controller.

Just got hold of a new server, which im playing with. I'm trying to set it up as a Domain Controller, and have DNS, WINS and DHCP installed.

However, when trying to add the DC role, it gives an error saying 'TCP/IP is not properly configured, either use DHCP and plug a cable in or setup a static IP'

I have a static ip assigned to the NIC, but its still erroring?

    Ideas?

You have set the box to be its own DNS server? And if you're running WINS, you're not trying to use it on a multihomed machine (i.e. with two or more NICs in different subnets)?

Yes the box is being its own DNS server, we are using WINS aswell, and the server does have 2 nic's but we have disabled one of them.

OK, have you configured the DNS server as well as installed it?

Is this server 2003? Last time I did this (ie installed AD on a machine to make it a DC) DNS was installed and configured along with Active Directory.

its 2003 r2 yes, i think its a case of boss being too careful.

he wont have it plugged into the network for fear of nuking all the other boxes. but surely if you keep the scopes well clear it wont interfere in any way shape or form.

anyhow, im flattening it and rebuilding it.

how does he intend to make it a DC without having it on the network?

Or am I missing the point?
