Windows 98se Updates? Help Needed


Hi I run a network of win 98se clients at a junior school, they all need loads of updates, and to download them all on a internet connection would take ages! Does anyone know of a service pack that someone has made with them all on? I know peeps have made them for win xp but does anyone know if there is a 98se one? It would be handy to have a cd with all the upgrades on..

You should be able to download them all individually from the MS site.... (but on the other hand, they have discontinued 98...) and download them somewhere else, put them on a CD and take them in.....

have a look at GFI Languard Network security scanner - It seems to be pretty good at scanning for and rolling out updates to a lot of different OS's , but I'm not 100% sure if it works with W98.

Not a service pack, but if you visit the Windows Update Catalog (not the same as Windows Update) http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...en/default.asp and select Windows 98 SE you'll be able to download all (or a selection of) the updates and burn them to a cd

I do not know if youngteam's link above downloads the redistributable updates, but I download them from here http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tre.../Currentdl.asp

You will still have to select the updates and download them individually, but at least you can download them once and burn them onto CD. Remember to download the updates for IE, Outlook and any other MS software you use as well as the Windows 98se updates . I know of no third party service pack like you want.

If you want to download IE 6 SP1 in full so it can be burned to a CD then run the ie6setup.exe using the command "c:\ie6sp1\ie6setup.exe" /c:"ie6wzd.exe /d /s:""#E" including the quotes (assuming ie6setup.exe is in a directory C:\ie6sp1).

Yeah, on the link I provided you select the operating sysytem, then which updates you want, and it downloads them in a similar way to windows update (i.e. you don't have to download them all individualy) but instead of installing them you just end up with the redistributable exe files.

why when they finished doing the updates for 98 they did not make a sp i will never know!

I guess its something to do with the Win95/98/ME architechture (sp??) as they never realeased one, but they have for NT based machines.

Making a service pack would certainly make sense, but large organisations often do not think sensibly. I am not just having a dig at Microsoft with that sentence . At least someone (Microsoft) could have put all the final redistributable Windows 98 patches into one archive/compressed file to make life that little bit easier.
