    3m 13s XP Pro Boot time (IE7 Beta 3)

    Hello all,

I have a rather painful problem. 3mins and 13seconds before I can actually start using my PC and deciding what programs i want to launch !!

It takes my machine 1min and 2 seconds to get the the Desktop, but the PC carries on doing background tasks for a further 2mins 11 seconds, until the task bar and START menu appears. Its so god damn frustrating, especially when i am trying to push my new CPU towards the 2.8Ghz barrier, but you simply cant risk it since the Temp monitoring program cannot be started untit after 3mins and 14 seconds !! Its damn Crazy. Im pretty certain its down to IE7 Beta 3, but was wondering if anyone lse has this Issue, and if so is there any way of getting around it? (Other than living without it and un-installing it)

I really like IE7B3, and although i also use Mozilla's Firefox and Opera 9 i still prefere to use IE7B3.

Ive checked through MSCONFIG --> Startup, and disable everything which i do not care for on startup, but this doesnt help. So what do you guys think? PS. Is their anyway of exporting your MSCONFIG --> Startup as a Txt file so i can post it in here?

Sorry, can't help with your other issue, but why not just take a screen dump of your desktop with the msconfgix box up and maxed to the width of your screen, and post it in imageshack? Not sure if it can be exported to .txt

    Question

I'm not too sure of a solution to your particular problem, but this tip may help reduce your startup times.

Go to 'Start' -> 'Run' -> type 'cmd' -> click on 'OK', this should bring up the command prompt window.

In the command prompt window type "defrag <letter of the drive windows is installed on>: -b". This will get windows to defrag the boot section of the hard drive not normally touched by the windows defragmenter.

eg. to defrag the boot section on the c partition type "defrag c: -b"

If you don't defragment your drives that often you can expect it to take a fair amount of time to complete.

id defrag the entire system, try a 3rd party startup checker, theres alot more things hidden away than whats in msconfig/startup.. mike lins startup cpl works well.

    failing that reinstall.
er, if your northbridge fan is humming loudly, disconnect it. _dont_ kick the side of the case, it _will_ break it.
    i know :/

Also remember to defrag your page file by deleting it while defraging and then enabling it again.
