    Batch conversion to XviD or H.264

    I want to run a batch job, maybe once a week, that'll take all the MPEG-II files (.mpeg containers, recorded television) and dump H.264 (or XviD) versions of them in another directory.

    It'll be run on MCE 2005.

    Any F/OSS suggestions?
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    x264?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X264

    That handles the trickier H.264 side of things, you should be able to find an MPEGII decompressor and pipe the output to x264

    Or something like vlc could probably be run from batch as well.

    VideoLAN would work nicely.

    However, directhex is right. What the flip is a dvr-ms container?

    That should explain how to convert from DVR-MS nicely BUT you have to pay for the software.

    There is freeware alternatives knocking about, which I have found and the guide is quite easy to follow ;

    I use Crunchie & DVRMSToolbox
    I cant post the link (<5 posts) but google "Arksofts Crunchie Release (v1.1) xpmediacenter" and its the 2nd link down.

    Crunchie is designed to be run nightly as a scheduled task. Its' main function in life is to find all your recordings from throughout the day and compress these very large files (3GB per hour) down to something a little more manageable.
    Hope this is what you're looking for.
