Is there any performance loss in choosing to upgrade an existing (windows) OS compared to a clean install?
Do upgrade packages only allow you to upgrade, or can you chose a clean install as well?

As far as I remember, I'm pretty sure upgrade tends to keep everything intact but move the old windows to like C:/OLDWINDOWS or something, and keeps the registry etc pretty much valid, along with all the programs etc. The beauty about clean installs, is that it completely wipes registry, etc, and all the rest of the clutter that slows Windows down over time.
Upgrade packages do not let you clean install I'm afraid. The nearest you could get is to format with Win 98, install Win 98 and then install on top of that, or something.
Hope that helps with something!![]()
Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the past I'm sure I have done a clean install from an 'upgrade' verison. It just asks you to put the full version that you are upgrading from in the CD drive during the install to validate that you have an older version.
Hmm that would be good if so. Especially if it works to upgrade from OEM.
