    Ubuntu no sound in google video/streams/youtube ETC

    getting no sound from google video?
    any codec i need for this?
    btw i have a asus a7n8x-x and have install the wmv codecs and some others if this helps?

    or add "ln -s /tmp/.esd-1000 /tmp/.esd" to your session startup (preferences/session/startup commands, or something like that)

    why would i want to install a non free flash plugin:S? is their a free one?

    "non-free" means "no source code"

    in this case, it's because adobe keep the flash plugin source code secret - and the reason for the problem is because they haven't updated their code to deal with how things work on linux these days.

    there are "free" open-source flash plugins, but none of them work properly

    Do you have any sound from any linux application?

    Try opening a console window. Press Ctrl-G. Do you get any sound? Is it a plain bleep from the PC speaker or something more fancy via the soundcard?
