    Your perfect XP Install

    Hi Everyone,

I have re-install XP Pro many times over the years and each time I have experimented with different ways of installing XP and then the programs that I install afterwards. For example Nero and WinDVD.

So this thread is to see what your experiences have been and what are the best programs, codec’s, configurations etc.

I look forward to seeing the different ways people do things.

    Wilksj01!

Slipstreaming all drivers and updates into one disc using nlite is a good start. Stops it fragmenting as much and saves a lot of time and restarts.

Hacked UXtheme.dll for prettiness. Hacked tcpip.sys for more half open connections and avoiding codec packs at all costs(cause horrible clashes often).

I agree, things need dumbing down a bit.

    Whts an xp?/?//

I just have SP2 slipstreamed into my install, may have a fiddle around adding extra goodies though.. especially adding things such as sata drivers.. would stop a lot of messing around.

Indeed. ffdshow for me, then individual codec installations as (and if) I need them. Especially important on MCE 2005.

Saying as you asked... I've actually got an entire document prepared listing what goes where and in which order.

I'm using sysprep and things too of course, so it's not the horrifically long job it looks like, but I have a set plan for each system both here and at work.

Might as well upload it instead of making the thread about 1gb larger
