    bootable OS

    Hi my friends PC cannot boot windows due to a deadly virus and i want to extract the data off the hdd before re-formating.

    i heard their is a bootable OS that allows you to acces files and burn them on cd but i forgot the name of it. i think its a OS built by linux

    Pretty much any bootable Linux CD will let you do this.
    http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html Will probably be your best bet to start with

    Alternatively, if you're more comfortable with Windows, try UBCD4WIN.
