Repair ip address and flush ARP

Hope this is the right section to post this message, if not sorry .

My daughter at uni has finally got the internet connected to her pc. Problem is that each time she tries to use it she gets a couple of messages .

    They are as follows:

To access the net the IP address needs repairing.
    Also the ARP needs flushing.

Hope somebody out there can make sense of this.

    Regards

My network places -> view connections -> right click connection -> repair

If it comes back with another message, let us know what it is

Allthough the repair flushes the Arp cache, you can just flush the arp cache by gonig to the command prompt and typing arp -d *

thats a very poorly written message, one can't "repair" an ip-address (yes i know user friendlyness means its called that but technically its wrong).

But what is generating it? Does she get it everytime she tries to goto a webpage, if so the uni network people have been rather piss poor in not providing more user friendly help!

The number of things in Windows that are "technically" wrong is shocking. Don’t just pick on this one

The following are my daughters words as to what happens.

I Turn it on and it says theres an internet connection but the net doesnt work so i go into internet options and it says repair so i do that and it says it is unable to renew the ip address and flush the ARP

    Any ideas gratefully received.

    Regards

log on as an administrative user, make sure you don't have a firewall blocking it

A *LOT* of uni's will require students to register the machines MAC address with the network admins. Has she looked into / spoke to anyone as to how it is supposed to be set-up ?. I dont think ive ever seen a uni use a standard "plug and play" internet connection for students.

I never knew Windows mentioned anything to do with ARP in error messages. I've certainly never seen it. Tried a dns flush? "ipconfig /flushdns" I tend to use that a lot and it does a variety of things for me
